Celiac Awareness Month, which occurs in May, is designed to promote awareness of celiac disease. It is usually marked by special offers and events from gluten-free food makers and celiac disease advocacy groups and research centers. It is more of a grass roots designation. The only official recognition of celiac disease by a U.S. governing body was a Senate vote to hold Celiac Awareness Day on Sept. 10, 2013.
